A lot has changed over the course of the last couple of years due to the pandemic. One thing that has seen a significant change in the UAE is the job market. Many companies, including larger multinational corporations, had to resort to restructuring and downsizing as a way of keeping businesses afloat. This in turn led to a large number of the expatriate workforce leaving the country due to the lack of available jobs and redundancy.
But has the job market now made a U-turn? It seems as though Dubai is once again becoming a hotspot for job opportunities, attracting new competition from individuals abroad as well as for expats who managed to stay put during the pandemic. The change seems to have come round during the summer months, as travel restrictions from a number of countries began to slows lift.

Emirates
When you think of a job at emirates, your first thought maybe there are just cabin crew and pilot roles on offer. While they are planning on hiring 3000 cabin crew back over the coming months, Emirates also announced plans to 500 airport service employees.
Emaar Hospitality Group
A range of jobs are to be posted shortly Emaar Hospitality group, as they look to hire 200-300 new employees. This comes after their Chief Operating Officer announced in a recent interview they were "We're bringing people back but managing that carefully along with how we see occupancy moving,". Hotel occupancy has seen a big increase following the summer, with the UAE now welcoming back tourists.
Amazon
Another organization currently on a hiring spree is Amazon, who have pledged to create 1500 direct and indirect jobs in the UAE. This comes as part of a larger hiring project for the company, as the global market recovery allows for company growth.
Other avenues
This hiring spree is not however limited to these large organizations. Companies across the UAE are taking advantage of this recovery time to hire new talent, across a breadth of industries. Industries such as Real Estate, Retail and Hospitality have been able to make a dramatic comeback with Covid-19 now having less of an impact in the UAE. There are industries such as in the Finance and Legal Sectors however, who managed to not only stay afloat, but are still actively looking to expand and develop their teas in the MENA region.
There are also many companies looking to address gaps in the market after the pandemic, with many start-ups hiring as they expand and grow in the region. Be sure to check out job boards, LinkedIn and similar avenues for new opportunities.
The economic impact of COVID-19 globally is not something we could expect to recover from overnight. There is still a long way to go, however the recent positive trends in rehiring show the market is moving in the right direction.
