Coronavirus is something that has had a global impact in many different ways, particularly on the economy. Now more than ever individuals are finding themselves on furlough or being made redundant with companies no longer able to support employees or having to completely shake up their employee structure. You may also just be unhappy in your current role but are tentative about leaving a job in such uncertain times. But how do you go about searching for an opportunity at such a challenging time? Do you have to change the way you look for a new job? How do you stay resilient when you aren’t hearing back from employers? Below are some useful tips to keep in mind when hunting for your next job.
Having a positive mindset
It’s hard not to feel intimidated or disheartened when looking for a job, but having the right mindset and perspective can make all the difference. Circumstances have changed, and with this the way you look for roles, as well as the type of employee’s companies are looking for will have changed as well. It may also take longer than usual to find a role you really want and compromises might be required. Acceptance of this and becoming more adaptable to searching in this market can help you chances of finding opportunities.
Make sure you have a virtual set up
If you get to an interview stage you want to be prepared! Some companies still have a preference to video calls rather than a face to face interview, particularly in the earlier stages. Some companies are even still offering remote working for office workers. It is therefore important to make sure you are prepared for this. Have you got a computer set up at home with a camera and a microphone? Have you got a Skype or Zoom account? If not, it might be a good time to make sure you’re all set up for a possible interview!

Technology and IT skills and certificates could prove to be invaluable on a CV, particularly with how much coronavirus has made companies rely on technology with remote working! Make sure you have also updated you online presence on LinkedIn and online job boards such as Gulftalent so employers can easily find you.
Don’t give up
Patience is a key part to looking for a job, keep looking! It can be easy to become discouraged when you don’t hear back from companies you apply to, but perseverance will go a long way in healing you find something. A job is not something that is found overnight for most people! Having a resilient personality will really help you to keep searching. Not every company will get back to you or even give you feedback on why you weren’t successful in your application. Just remember to keep searching, your future job could be just around the corner!
